Volunteer as a tutor

You don't need to be a teacher. If you're patient, reliable and comfortable with elementary math, we'll teach you the rest.

What you'll do

• • Sit with a child and work through a short math packet together.
• • Ask questions that help them think, instead of giving answers.
• • Write a short note after each session so the next tutor knows where to start.
• • Log your hours in the staff portal. You can download them for school service-hour forms.

Training

Before tutoring on your own, you'll finish short online lessons, each with a quick check:

• • Start here: What WeMath is, your role, and how we keep kids safe. Finish this before your first session.
• • Running a session: How to use the staff portal: check-in, check-out and writing good notes.
• • Teaching the WeMath way: How kids learn early math, the core strategies in our packets, and what to do when a student is stuck.
• • Using the curriculum: How the packets, Check-Ins and grade assessments fit together, and how to record progress.
